Hello, dear readers,
As the founder of Karikuy Tours, I’m thrilled to introduce you to a series that’s very close to my heart: “Amazing Peru Backpacking.” This isn’t just a collection of travel diaries; it’s a journey back in time to the very roots of Karikuy Tours.
In September of 2007, I took a leap of faith and founded Karikuy Tours. With the ink barely dry on our company’s papers and a pocket not as deep as my dreams, I set out on a mission. I wanted to experience the vastness, the beauty, and the soul of Peru, not as a tour operator, but as a backpacker. With a tight budget and an insatiable wanderlust, I embarked on a journey that would not only shape my personal life but also the ethos and foundation of Karikuy Tours.
“Amazing Peru Backpacking” chronicles this adventure. From the bustling streets of Lima to the ancient ruins of Caral, from the high Andean peaks of Cajamarca to the streets of Callao, every blog post in this series is a testament to the spirit of exploration and discovery. But more than just tales of adventure, these stories are about connections. Along the way, I sought out the best operators, made invaluable contacts, and forged partnerships that would later become the backbone of Karikuy Tours.
This series is a tribute to the raw, unfiltered beauty of Peru and the resilience and passion of its people. It’s about the challenges faced, the friendships made, and the lessons learned. It’s about the transformation of a backpacker’s dream into a thriving company that has since helped countless travelers experience the magic of Peru.
As you dive into these travel diaries, I hope they inspire you as much as living them inspired me. I hope they remind you of the power of dreams, the importance of perseverance, and the beauty of starting small. Most importantly, I hope they give you a glimpse into the heart and soul of Karikuy Tours and the incredible country we are so proud to showcase.
Happy reading and happy travels,
Julio Cesar Tello
