Your adventure begins with an early morning pickup between 3:00 and 3:30 AM from your hotel in Arequipa. We’ll travel by tourist vehicle to the charming highland town of Chivay, arriving just in time for a hearty breakfast to fuel your trek.
From Chivay, we head directly to the iconic Cruz del Cóndor viewpoint, where you’ll witness the majestic flight of the Andean condor soaring over the vast canyon. This is one of the most awe-inspiring sights in the region and a perfect photo opportunity.
Next, we continue by road to the San Miguel viewpoint, where the real trekking begins. You’ll descend into the canyon on a scenic trail carved into the mountainside, with panoramic views of the Colca River and surrounding valley. After approximately 3 hours, you’ll reach the traditional village of San Juan de Chuccho, where a delicious lunch awaits.

In the afternoon, the trek continues through picturesque villages like Cosñirhua and Malata, where you’ll get a glimpse of local life and traditions. Finally, you’ll arrive at the tranquil Sangalle Oasis, a lush paradise in the canyon surrounded by palm trees and natural beauty. Here, you can take a refreshing dip in a natural pool, enjoy a well-deserved dinner, and relax in a rustic bungalow under the stars.
Rise early at 5:00 AM for the most challenging part of the trek: a 3-hour uphill hike to Cabanaconde, located at 3,287 meters above sea level. At the summit, you’ll enjoy a rewarding breakfast and have time to catch your breath while reflecting on the morning’s achievement.
After breakfast, we begin our return journey by bus with several exciting stops along the way. We’ll revisit Cruz del Cóndor for one last chance to spot condors, followed by stops at the Antahuilque and Choquetico viewpoints, where you’ll marvel at pre-Inca terraces and learn about local agriculture.
Later, we’ll visit the La Calera Hot Springs for a relaxing soak in natural thermal waters (optional, entrance not included). Along the way, we’ll make a brief stop to taste sancayo juice, a cactus fruit native to the region.
Optional zipline activities are available for those craving extra adrenaline (additional cost applies).
We’ll pause in Chivay for lunch (included) and continue toward Arequipa. On our way back, we’ll stop at the Patapampa Viewpoint at over 4,900 meters, offering sweeping views of snow-capped volcanoes. The final leg of the journey passes through the Salinas and Aguada Blanca National Reserve, where wild vicuñas roam freely.
Arrival in Arequipa is expected around 5:00 PM, marking the end of an unforgettable two-day adventure through one of Peru’s natural wonders.
