Itinerary – Machu Picchu by car

Day 1: Cusco – Hidroelectrica – Aguas Calientes

Your adventure begins early in the morning with pickup from your hotel in Cusco between 6:30 and 7:00 AM. We depart by tourist transport toward the Sacred Valley, stopping briefly in Ollantaytambo for snacks, breakfast, or restroom use.

The journey continues toward Hidroelectrica, crossing the dramatic Andes landscapes. We ascend to Abra Málaga Pass (4,300 meters / 14,108 ft), where you’ll witness spectacular snow-capped peaks before descending into the lush cloud forest. The scenery changes dramatically from high Andean mountains to warm tropical jungle.

We pass through Santa Teresa, where we stop for lunch. After enjoying a local meal and a short rest, we continue to Hidroelectrica, the starting point of the jungle hike.

From Hidroelectrica, we begin a scenic walk along the railway tracks to Aguas Calientes (approximately 2 hours and 45 minutes). This walk is relatively flat and offers beautiful views of the Urubamba River, waterfalls, and dense vegetation. This part of the journey allows you to truly connect with the natural environment surrounding Machu Picchu.

Upon arrival in Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu Pueblo), you will check into your basic 2* hostel. In the evening, enjoy a group dinner and receive a briefing from your guide about the next day’s visit to Machu Picchu.

Day 2: Machu Picchu – Hidroelectrica – Cusco

We wake up very early around 4:30 AM to prepare for the highlight of the trip: Machu Picchu.

From Aguas Calientes, we begin a hike of approximately 2 hours uphill to the entrance of Machu Picchu. This walk is moderately challenging but incredibly rewarding. (Optional bus available at extra cost.)

For the best experience, we recommend purchasing entrance tickets for Circuit 2A or 2B at 6:00 AM or 7:00 AM, allowing you to enjoy the magical sunrise atmosphere over the citadel.

Once inside Machu Picchu, you will enjoy a guided tour of approximately 2 hours. Your professional guide will explain the history, architecture, and mysteries of this incredible Inca sanctuary. After the guided portion, you will have free time to explore and take photos on your own.

Between 10:30 AM and 11:00 AM, we begin the descent back to Aguas Calientes (optional bus available). At midday, the group gathers in the main square to begin the return hike to Hidroelectrica (approx. 2 hours 45 minutes).

Around 3:00 PM, we arrive at Hidroelectrica, where our transport will be waiting to take us back to Cusco. The return drive takes approximately 6 hours.

Arrival in Cusco is between 9:30 PM and 10:00 PM, concluding this unforgettable adventure.
