Ausangate 7 Lakes Itinerary

Full Day

Experience the breathtaking beauty of Peru’s high Andes on a full-day trek through the sacred Ausangate region and its seven spectacular glacial lakes.

05:00 AM – Hotel Pickup in Cusco
Your adventure begins early with a convenient pickup from your hotel in Cusco. As the sun rises, you’ll enjoy a scenic 3-hour drive through the Andes, passing remote villages and sweeping mountain landscapes until you reach the community of Pacchanta, located at the base of the Ausangate massif.

08:00 AM – Briefing and Acclimatization
Upon arrival, your guide will provide a short but important briefing on the day’s trek and share tips for managing the high-altitude environment. Take a moment to stretch, hydrate, and get used to the crisp mountain air.

08:30 AM – Begin the Trek to the Seven Lakes
Your trek begins with gentle trails across undulating terrain, surrounded by serene highland scenery. As you climb gradually, the vistas open up to snow-capped peaks and valleys dotted with herds of llamas and alpacas. The highlight of the hike is the encounter with the stunning seven lakes — each unique in color and charm.

11:00 AM – Arrival at Azul Cocha and More
Your first major stop is Azul Cocha, renowned for its vibrant turquoise waters. You’ll then continue on foot, uncovering a succession of lakes including Otorongo, Puka Cocha, Alqa Cocha, Q’omer Cocha, and China Cocha, each offering surreal reflections and untouched beauty perfect for nature photography and quiet contemplation.

01:00 PM – Picnic Lunch with a View
Enjoy a well-deserved picnic lunch set against the dramatic backdrop of the Ausangate glacier. This serene moment gives you time to refuel and soak in the natural splendor.

02:00 PM – Return Hike and Hot Springs Soak
Begin your descent back toward Pacchanta. Once there, reward yourself with a relaxing soak in the natural hot springs, a perfect way to ease tired muscles and reflect on your day.

06:00 PM – Return to Cusco
Board your transport and journey back to Cusco, enjoying the evening colors over the mountains. You’ll be dropped off at your hotel around 9:00 PM, completing a full day of unforgettable exploration and connection with the natural world.
