The Rainbow Mountain Itinerary

Rainbow Mountain Full Day Tour

Your adventure begins very early in the morning with hotel pickup in Cusco around 4:00 AM. Traveling south of the city, you will enjoy a scenic drive of approximately two hours through the Andean highlands, passing quiet rural communities and vast mountain landscapes until reaching the town of Cusipata, where a warm breakfast awaits you. This stop also allows time to use restrooms and prepare for the high-altitude adventure ahead.

After breakfast, the journey continues for another two hours along a narrower mountain road toward Pitumarca, eventually reaching the designated parking area where the ATVs are located. Along the way, you’ll notice dramatic changes in scenery, with snow-capped mountains, grazing alpacas, and open valleys that reflect the raw beauty of the Andes.

Upon arrival at the ATV base, your professional instructor will provide a safety briefing and clear instructions on how to operate the quad bikes. Even if you have no prior experience, the training session ensures that everyone feels confident and comfortable before starting the ride.

Once ready, the ATV adventure begins. You will ride along specially designed Andean trails for approximately one hour, surrounded by spectacular views of mountains, glaciers, and high-altitude wildlife. This portion of the tour offers an adrenaline-filled yet accessible way to reach Rainbow Mountain while avoiding the long and strenuous hikes of the traditional route.

After the ATV ride, there is a short walk of about 10 minutes to reach the viewpoint of Rainbow Mountain (Vinicunca). Standing at over 5,200 meters above sea level, the mountain reveals its famous multicolored slopes formed by natural mineral deposits. You’ll have plenty of time to take photos, admire the scenery, and listen to your guide explain the geological and cultural significance of this natural wonder.

Following your visit, you will return the same way, first walking back to the ATVs and then riding back to the base. From there, you’ll board the vehicle for the return trip to Cusipata, where a well-deserved buffet lunch is served.

In the afternoon, you’ll begin the journey back to Cusco, arriving at your hotel around 5:30 PM. After a day filled with adventure, breathtaking landscapes, and unforgettable experiences, you’ll return with incredible memories of one of Peru’s most iconic destinations.
