Salinas salt flat - Itinerary

Your adventure begins early in the morning with hotel pick-up at 6:00 AM. As the city slowly wakes up, we head east towards the mystical landscapes of Salinas and Aguada Blanca National Reserve. Along the way, enjoy panoramic views of Arequipa’s three guardian volcanoes: Misti, Chachani, and Pichu Pichu.

Our first scenic stop allows you to greet wild llamas and vicuñas, grazing freely in their natural protected environment. Keep your camera ready—these animals are as graceful as they are photogenic, and spotting them in the wild is always a highlight.

We continue ascending toward the breathtaking Salinas Salt Flat, a vast expanse that transforms into a natural mirror during the rainy season (January–March), creating surreal reflections of the sky and surrounding mountains. During the dry season, you’ll marvel at the striking patterns of cracked salt and mineral layers across the desert-like landscape.

This region is also a sanctuary for birdlife. With some luck, you’ll spot all three species of flamingos that inhabit the area, along with other migratory birds. The contrast of pink birds against white salt and blue sky is simply mesmerizing.

After enjoying the salt flat’s unique scenery and taking unforgettable photos, we head toward the Lojen area, known for its mini-volcano, steaming vents, and therapeutic hot springs. You’ll have time to relax your feet or soak in the natural thermal pools, known for their mineral-rich waters and healing properties.

Throughout the journey, your guide will share insightful stories about the area’s volcanic history, cultural legends, and ecological importance. This is not just a tour—it’s an immersion into one of Peru’s most fascinating and least visited ecosystems.

After a full morning and early afternoon of exploration, we return to Arequipa around 4:30 PM, refreshed by nature and carrying with you memories of one of the most photogenic and peaceful corners of Peru.
