The Short Inca Trail to Machu Picchu starts with a transfer from your hotel to KM104 by train where you will begin the trail by crossing the Vilcanota / Urubamba River. Along an Inca highway, we’ll climb away from the river and through floras and fauna that is home to hundreds of bird and orchid species. We’ll emerge from the cloud forest at Wiñay Wayna.
Wiñay Wayna is a beautiful ceremonial site divided into two sectors and fashioned from finely-carved stones fit together with great precision. We’ll continue our hike to the Sun Gate, where we’ll get our first view of Machu Picchu. Here, the final stretch of the royal Inca highway will take us to the citadel itself, covered for four centuries by forest and now laid out for our appreciation. From the Sanctuary, we will take the bus to the town of Machu Picchu, where we will spend the night in our hostel / hotel.
There are so many tour companies out there for a short Inca Trail trek and it took a lot of research before I decided to go with Karikuy. And I’m so so happy I did. This tour company was so informed and kept me in the loop on every step of the process. Our guide Gilber was so fun and had amazing stories.
Super impressed with how professional everything was. Honestly best pricing and i would forsure do it again. My wife was extremely happy with everything. All i would say is when finding the tour after the train ride. She was a short cute women and it was a little hard to find the blue sign 🙂 she was amazing though so just keep your eyes open for the sign 🙂
Thank you so much to Karikuy. Julio helped us every step of the way for planning our trip and accommodate changes that we requested. Even when we were in Peru, he was able to answer any questions for us. Our family booked a 9 day tour which included tours of Lima, Nazca Lines, Ica/sand dunes, Cuzco, Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu. All our tours provided us such great one on one service. There was always someone to meet us to pick us up from the various public transportation stations. We never had to worry about getting around town and visit all the amazing sites that Peru had to offer. Our guides were amazing and provided so much information about the Incan history. There was always time for us to spend time as a family and to explore on our own. Peru is an amazing country and the people so friendly. I wish we could have stayed long. Karikuy will be my first choice the next time we visit!!
We had an amazing time in Peru as Julio’s team at Karikuy put together a perfect custom itinerary for us that included Cusco, an Inca Trail hike, Machu Picchu, and Huayna Picchu. We had no issues throughout our entire trip from the time we landed in Cusco until the afternoon we departed. All of our hotels were excellent and any transportation arrangements (cars, trains) were always on time.Special thanks to Oscar (our driver in Cusco), Jaime (our Cusco guide), and Neilo (our Inca trail and Machu Picchu guide) for their professionalism and service. It is clear that Karikuy works with the best local people to ensure that you have an amazing trip and memories to last a lifetime. We highly recommend using Karikuy for your trip to Peru and seeing the magical, mystical and breathtaking Inca citadel of Machu Picchu
I was part of ‘Seldom’s’ group and just returned to the USA. Karikuy tours provided a wonderful experience in Peru. Your guides were prompt and knowledgeable. Oscar met us with a smile, and we stayed at his wife’s B & B where we were treated like family. All of the ‘hostels’ far exceeded our expectations both in warmth and hospitality. The two days of touring in Cusco were very informative. I did feel that we did try to cram too much into those days–I understand that Peru has so much to offer and you want to share it all! The Inca trail guides were SUPERIOR! Valerie was organized and informative. Guido has such heart and was gently encouraging. After childbirth, I found the trail to be most challenging for me. Hector rescued our two fellow travelers who couldn’t continue. I appreciated how all tour guides were on time, friendly, and delivered all tickets and information necessary. A suggestion for Peru–take some of the fees from the trail and invest in composting toilets! The porters are a wonder too! The camp food was excellent and abundant. The trip to Puno was informative too. The floating islands were quite unique as was the cultural background. Great guide on that trip too. I had some trouble at the airport. Evidently one is not able to take fossils out of Peru. I bought one for my son and one for my grandson at one road market on our trip to Sacred Valley. I would have appreciated knowing we couldn’t take them out of the country. The seller didn’t tell me that. Overall I thoroughly enjoyed your country and people. Warmth and hospitality abounded. Thank you. Patricia Fuhrman
