The highlight to the end of any Trek in Peru is Machu Picchu. But did you know there are other short treks inside the actual ruins of Machu Picchu? There are currently two other treks, The Huayna Picchu Hike and The Machu Picchu Mountain Hike.
Huayna Picchu is undoubtedly the most popular of the two, this hike is normally an add on to any trek to Machu Picchu and has it’s own price. The hike takes about an hour up to the peak of Huayna Picchu Mountain and another hour and a half down. It is recommend for adventure travelers and those that do not mind heights.
The other is Machu Picchu Mountain which is a longer 2 hour hike but is more laid back and not as vertigo inducing as Huayna Picchu. This hike gives you a great overhead birds eye view of the Machu Picchu site and is actually higher in altitude then Huayna Picchu.
For any Hike to Machu Picchu don’t forget to buy yourselves a great pair of all terrain waterproof hiking boots so you protect your feet and have the overall best experience hiking.
