Your 4 Day Machu Picchu Tour begins upon your arrival in Cusco where your guide will be waiting to greet you. We recommend arriving to Cusco in the early morning, our guide will await you at the Cusco airport lobby holding a sign with your name on it in order to transfer you to your hotel. In the afternoon you will be picked up for your Cusco City Tour. The Cusco City Tour visits the most important sites in and around Cusco.
The Tour Begins at 1:45pm with it’s first stop being Koricancha, the temple of the Sun, the most important building in Cusco during Incan rule. Today a church sits atop the foundations of the magnificent temple, but you can make out the differences in architecture between the two buildings. The massive earthquake resistant rocks built by the Incas make up the temples walls while the Spanish church sits lazily atop the structure, having been rebuilt twice due to powerful earthquakes that brought down the Church.
You then head outside Cusco to the fortress of Sacsayhuaman overlooking the city. Here you have the opportunity to take some great pictures of the city and and valley below. The stones that make up the Sacsayhuaman complex are huge in scale and very impressive. From here you go on to visit the smaller sites of Tambomachay, Qenq’o and Puka Pukara.
At the end of the tour it is common for your group to be taken to shops to browse or purchase items from local artisans. These include artwork, hand made alpaca sweaters, blankets and souvenirs, these shops are outside of Cusco.
Today you embark on the Sacred Valley Tour which takes you to the center of Inca cosmology, visiting some of their sacred site located at the heart of of the Inca Empire.
The tour begins around 8:45AM as you begin to drive out of Cusco and into the fertile Sacred Valley. You will reach lookout points where the tour bus will stop and you will have the opportunity to snap some photos. Your first stop is the town of Pisac, a small colonial town where on Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays there is an extensive market where you can barter for souvenirs and other goods. Surrounding Pisac there is also extensive Inca ruins, elaborate terracing and housing, it is said that Pisac was used for agricultural experiments.
You then continue to Urubamba where you will have lunch with the beautiful scenery surrounding you. It is then on to the town of Ollantaytambo and the fortress that overlooks the small Inca town. Ollantaytambo in fact was the only place where the Incas were actually able to repel Spanish attacks. The vast fortress ruins are an incredible sight too see and the valley itself is unique, making the recounting of its story come to life.
At 6pm you make your way to the nearby Train station at Ollantaytambo where you will board the PeruRail Expedition train to Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu Town). Note that this train can be upgraded to an earlier Vistadome or Hiram Bingham Trains upon request, this change will have an additional cost and due to scheduling the Ollantaytambo tour will be unavailable unless booking a private Sacred Valley tour.
In the evening you arrive at Aguas Calientes, here you have a free evening to spend exploring the small town. You will also be met by your guides who will give you a short briefing on day 3 of your 4 Day Machu Picchu tour.
This morning you wake up early to board one of the first buses up to Machu Picchu. Once up at the ruins you’ll catch a beautiful sunrise over the site, your then given a tour of the ruins. After the tour you have the option of hiking to either Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain for an overhead view of the ruins. afterwards you have free time at the ruins. In the afternoon you catch your train back to Cusco where you are transferred to your hotel for the evening.
Today your guides will pick you up from your hotel depending on your domestic flight schedule to Lima. This concludes the Inca Weekend – 4 Day Machu Picchu Tour with Karikuy Tours Peru.
We had an Amazing time doing our 4 day jungle trek to Machu Picchu! We seen so many beautiful places in 4 days and our guide Everyth was so amazing to me helping deal with a some stomach issues the 2nd day of the hike! The hike was beautiful but the second day was very challenging with all the uphill and steps! So proud of myself for accomplishing this for my 30th birthday present! Thanks again for an amazing time!
When we got to Machu Picchu, having spent a brilliant 4 days with Jesus and Willy, our two Karikuy trek guides we were greeted by a guide from another another trekking company exclaiming we had one of the best guides of them all. This, we believe was truly the case. Right from the Salkantay briefing with Vidal through to our final farewell meeting with Willy in Plaza de Almas we couldn’t fault the care and connection we felt. We both hadn’t acclimatized to the altitude as much as we’d have liked due to a cancelled flight into Cusco. Our fears were allayed as the guides led from behind and explained exactly how we were going to approach this magnificent trek taking into account everyone’s ability and ‘state’ (we were the oldest couple in our group!). The knowledge of the land, ecology, culture and history was obviously deeply held by the guides. Their way of explaining properties of plants, the symbolism of the animals, the geology of this part of the Andes and importantly the ways the Quechuan and Inkas population lived were explained in an accessible and personal way. All abilities in the group were cared for and by the end of the second day, after climbing up and over the salkantay pass, at 4,600 metres, we really started to feel like a family. The food, and various accommodations kept us going (although I wished i had paid for a warm shower on the second evening!). It was reassuring to see how the tour put money back into some of the communities we were trekking through, where we were greeted with smiling welcoming faces. Finally, if you are willing to get up at 4 oclock it is well worth the slow trek up to Machu Picchu in order to get there before the bus crowds appear…we were treated to a dawn of clearing clouds…it did literally take the breath away. We can’t thank the karikuy staff enough, especially our guides, Jesus and Willy, enough for the care and attention, and most importantly, the love for this land that they shared. This trek was truly the best value for money.
Hi Claudia and Ana I just wanted to write to let you know how much my husband and I enjoyed our 4 day hike to Machu Picchu with Karikuy tours. In particular I would like to recognise and acknowledge the professionalism of Mario our tour guide. He truly is a lovely man. Very knowledgeable, able to answer all our questions. He helped me along the way of the hike, was always ready to take photos of us and is an absolute asset to your company. I would also like to thank you for always answering my questions before the tour and for the smooth ease of booking. The whole trip from beginning to end was excellent and ran very smoothly. I would definitely recommend Karikuy tours to anyone booking a trip to Peru. Thank you so much and please pass on our thanks again to Mario. He will forever be remembered by us, as will all the porters who worked so hard and always had a smile for us. Best wishes Julie Schurmann
We thought we would be sad that we couldn’t do the Inca trail… but the four day jungle trek was a total hit. Our guide David has to be the best! He really taught us about the plants and the land, we loved him! I highly suggest booking in advance and adding the zip line and rafting. It made the 4 days such a diverse adventure. Their Online communication is great also! Ask all the questions!
We really enjoyed our 4 day Macchu Pichu jungle tour with Karikuy. We were given private hostel rooms during the trip and had a great guide (Pablo).
