At 8:00 we will pick you up from you hotel and begin the Tiwanaku and La Paz Tour, this tour takes you across the immense Altiplano (High Plateau Ranges) enjoying the landscape characterized by Andean farms and small houses made of mud bricks called “adobes”. Our destiny is the town of Tiwanaku, where we find the most important archaeological complex of the country. For a first approach to this impressive culture, we will visit the local museum for an introduction about Tiwanaku’s heritage.
And then we go into our journey back to more than 3500 years ago, we will visit the archaeological site whose main attraction is the “Puerta del Sol” (Sun Gate) one of the most important archaeological pieces of the continent, a megalithic gateway carved from a single block of stone We will also have the chance to visit some other very important ruins of this enigmatic pre-Incan culture in terms of architecture and iconography: the Temple of Kalasasaya, which is believed to be a ritual platform built using huge blocks of red sandstone, the “Templete Semi-subterraneo” and the Akapana pyramid, structures that make Tiwanaku one of the most popular places to visit in of Bolivia.
After lunch we go back to La Paz and crossing most of it we arrive to the south part of the city to get to the Moon Valley, a natural area, formed due to the erosion and clay composition of the soil, wind and rain have created a valley filled with stalagmites.
We address ourselves to Murillo Square, in its surroundings there are: the Presidential Palace, the headquarters of the Congress of the Republic and the Cathedral, and we go on with the visit to a museum at the Jaen Street, a small beautiful patrimonial street which is a reflex of the colonial past of the city, after we visit the exteriors of the San Francisco Basilica, the most representative religious temple of the Baroque-Mestizo style in Bolivia. We end our tour at the “Witches market” where you will find traditional remedies and witchcrafts to offer to “Pachamama” (Mother Earth)
The Tiwanaku and La Paz Tour concludes as we drop you off at your hotel.
