Beaches in Peru are very unique in that they are mostly cold throughout the year due to the Humboldt current coming up from Antarctica. So the best months to visit are always during summer along the cost from December to March. Peru’s northernmost beaches have the advantage here with warmer waters year round.
1. Mancora
Why does Mancora take the top pick? well apart from having some great seafood, it’s the beach town of Peru. It’s only downside is its location, located more then a 26 hour drive north from Lima. It’s best to fly to Piura or Tumbes and take transport here. While there are no white sand beaches in Peru, Mancora is the place will you will come closest to soft sand and warm and sunny climate almost year round.
2. Las Pocitas
Las Pocitas is up there near Mancora, perhaps it’s biggest draw is that it is not too congested with tourism like Mancora. The Ocean here is beautifully clear and the beach is pristine. A great place to get away with the family and not have to deal with droves of people.
3. Punta Sal
Another popular northern beach, Punta Sal is know for it’s warm water year round due to the equatorial el Niño current. It also has one of the longest beaches in Peru so you can find a spot without much congestion from other tourists.
4. Pimentel
This beach is perfect for families and those with small children with a very tranquil beach with low waves. This beach is located 15 minutes from the town of Chiclayo. You will find great sea food and other tourists attractions such as the Royal Tombs of Sipan. Pimentel is a great option for one of the best beaches in Peru if only for the attractions nearby.
5. San Bartolo
This is one of our favorite beach towns that is located a short drive from Lima. If you want to avoid the trip to the North then San Bartolo is a great option, located less then an hours drive south of Lima. The charming little town is quiet and has some good restaurants and even night clubs. The beach itself is calm so great for families, the only drawback is that its not a very long beach so can get congested in the summer.
The Beaches of Southern Peru
The beautiful beaches are a testimony to the fact that there is more to Southern Peru than Nazca lines and Colca Canyon. Remember the sea is cold here even during summers. If you plan to swim, you are in for a nippy dip.
6. Camana
Camana is a coastal town known for its serene beaches with gentle waves. If you are looking for tranquility and tryst with nature, this is the place to be. Playa La Miel with flat terrain of fine sand girded by cliffs and gullies is a lovely beach to go to.
7. Mollendo
Playa Catarindo in Mollendo is a quaint beach perfect for family holiday with its descent stretch of sand and laidback air. A variety of food choices are available on the beach. Take a walk around the town and cherish its timeworn streets and buildings. For bird watching and surfing, head south to Mejía.
8. Playa Jihuay
Surrounded by high cliffs, this lonely beach in the province of Caravellí is covered with white sand. Waters of the Pacific are cold here yet the sun-drenched beach makes for an exhilarating plunge. It is easy to spot sea lions resting on the rocks.
9. Puerto Inca
Puerto Inca in Arequipa is a blend of archaeological, green and picturesque locations. Balmy air brushes past your face while you soak in shallow seabed of Puerto Inca. History dwells in nooks and corners of this place. The beach has a conserved ancient path that stretches over dunes, hills, ravines and mountains connecting it to the capital city of Inca Empire.
10. Boca del Rio
Approximately 40 minutes away from Tacna is the gorgeous beach of Boca del Rio. The beach is clean and placid but rocky and unfit for swimming.
